 Once in a lifetime, if you're lucky, you might experience a rare moment watching the passing of a comet, lighting up the darkness of the night's sky. During such an historical event, you might feel as though the past is being seen in the present, and is making room for something extraordinary to happen in the future. Choose any generation and you'll discover such an occurrence happening. Something, or someone special comes along and moves time, with all of it's traditions, and touches another in such a way that the past is shared with the present, to make space for something to happen in the future. This is the description of Cajun Legacy.
Edwin Duhon, born in 1910, and a star in his Cajun music culture with a total of 63 years as cofounder of the legendary Hackberry Ramblers, brings his natural and energizing rhythm into this debut album. When you hear the twists and turns he takes you on with the accordion, you can only hear pure, spirited, soulful Cajun folk. You can heir his years of dedication and loyalty to the traditions he has never let go of his Cajun music voice living within this lively man. With his imaginative waltzes and spry Two-Steps, he has shared the presence of all the great Cajun musicians that my generation has come to love and respect. He's danced with Cleoma Breaux Falcon, laughed with Iry Lejeune, played bass, fiddle and guitar with Lennis Sonnier, Crawford Vincent, Leo Soileau, and he's walked more than a mile with The Hackberry Ramblers.
Edwin is undoubtedly the comet in this group that will light up the deep yearning that ;II Cajuns have experienced and longed to express. With Edwin's unending accordion tunes, Goldband Records' talented insight, I was given the liberty to recreate my stories in French folk verse, and experience the outcry of the voice that has been within me, "Waiting to Exhale", since childhood.
